Shivakti

A retreat to devotion and joy

“I always thrilled at the touch of Sri Yukteswar’s holy feet.  A disciple is spiritually magnetized by reverent contact with a master; a subtle current is generated.  The devotee’s undesirable habit-mechanisms in the brain are often as if cauterized; the grooves of his worldly tendencies are beneficially disturbed.  Momentarily at least he may find the secret veil of maya lifting, and glimpse the reality of bliss.  My whole body responded with a liberating glow whenever I knelt in the Indian fashion before my guru”

India is the most ancient culture and nation on this planet.  Its emphasis, throughout the ages has been the pursuit of alleviating human suffering and the attainment of supernal happiness, or Sat-Chit-Ananda, ever existing, ever conscious, ever new joy

through the instrumentality, and relationship of the guru-disciple relationship.

As devotees of Paramahansa Yogananda we are thrilled to offer SRF devotees, and anyone who can appreciate the spiritual benefits of India’s various sacred temples, ancient cities, and to experience the home, ashrams and sacred sites of our guru and paramgurus, whose presence may be felt with personal receptivity.

Shivakti is a voluntary initiative that supports children with disabilities, specifically, through the “PYSSUM” school, located in Lucknow, northeast India.  PYSSUM is an acronym for
Paramahansa Yogananda Society for Special Unfolding and Moulding. Children with special needs are taught “functional-academic-life skills, as well as Paramahansa Yogananda’s “how-to-live principles, which includes daily chanting, meditation and service to others.

At Shivakti we will visit approximately 10 to 12 cities, beginning in Kolkata and the ashram at Dakshineswar and conclude our pilgrimage in Delhi, after visiting Dwarahat, and near-by Babaji’s cave situated at the foothills of the Himalayas.  The pilgrimage to India will last approximately 35 days.  About 12 days will be spent at Dakshineswar,  Ranchi, and Dwarahat ashrams. Spending quiet days, coupled with ample time for deep meditation with other spiritual-like-minded souls at the ashrams has proven to me the essence of my “India” experience.  Much fun, as well as enjoying the culture, cuisine, temples and natural environment of India will give you a wonderful balance and lasting memories.

"Where Ganges, Woods, Himalayan Caves and Men dream God, I am hallowed; my body touched that sod."
